American Motors invested heavily in stock car racing, but there were also efforts by many local AMC drivers. From the high banks of the superspeedway to the dirt of your local track, AMC was there. |
Several large names raced AMC and achieved successes, but there were many factory backed teams and privately funded teams that may not have been as well know. |
AMC's finest hour, or at least their proudest were made in sports car racing. The national championship in 1970 spawned the Mark Donohue Javelin. |
Not just at the Indy 500, but other tracks and races as well. This style of racing led to some innovative engines and parts. |
Jeep had
long been a standard in Off Road racing, but AMC wanted to show their car
line was up to the test, so they added two big names with factory money to
see what they could get. |
When AMC jumped into racing in 1968 and 69 this is one of the areas they wanted to conquer. A lot of press was gained from their efforts on the salt flats of Bonneville. |
See AMCs racing today. Some restored old racers as well as new cars flying the R/W/B banner. |
